Turkish Savory Pastry with Ground Meat

Description

This is a very traditional Turkish pastry from my childhood. Great for breakfast or a healthy and delicious snack for tea or coffee time.

Ingredients

Preparation

  1. For the filling:

    - 2 tablespoon olive oil
    - 5 oz ground meat
    - 1 small yellow onion ( finely chopped)
    - 1 teaspoon salt
    - 1 bunch of fresh parsley ( finely chopped)

    Preparing the filling:

    Put olive oil in a skillet. Saute the onions over medium heat until they turn pink. Add ground meat and salt, cook for 7-8 minutes stirring occasionally. Add chopped parsley and remove from the heat. Set aside to cool down.

    Mix egg white, yogurt, olive oil, baking powder, and salt in a big bowl. Add flour slowly. You can mix them using your hands. It requires a bit of kneading until you obtain a nonsticky dough.

  2. Preheat the oven to 380 degrees Fahrenheit.

  3. Take a small piece from the dough and flatten it in your palm. Put a teaspoon of the ground meat mixture in it and close it from the edges. Do the same for the rest of the dough.

  4. Place them on a greased baking pan and brush the egg yolk on top of each roll. Sprinkle the black cumin on top and bake for 30-35 minutes or until they turn golden brown.
